Out of all the promos I got to listen to, this was by far one of my favorites. A fairly new Italian band, DEMON SPELL burst out with this awesome little EP! It’s got all the things I love in heavy metal: unique vocals, ‘80s-style riffs, nice solos, and a very cool atmosphere. Think of Mercyful Fate if there was way less falsetto vocals and more standard heavy metal fanfare – I think that’s a fairly apt description of these guys. Plus, it’s hard to come by good Mercyful Fate-inspired bands that are in the traditional metal vein, so bonus points on that front! Usually they just try to blatantly rip them off, but not DEMON SPELL. They have enough little unique quirks to their sound that make them themselves, while still preserving that classic ‘80s sound that we all know and love. If you’re a fan of anything I’ve mentioned above (or below), you’d be doing yourself a favor listening to this. I can’t wait to see what they write for their first full-length!
FAVORITE TRACKS: “Demon Spell,” “Dark Deceiver (Woman of the Black Oath)”
FOR FANS OF: Witch Cross, Mercyful Fate, Satan
