★★★★★ Calling any Voivod fans!! While the monikers “progressive” or “technical” might turn some listeners off from this, I highly urge you to look past the tags and strap in for a deadly progressive sci-fi-themed technical slab of steel. Where contemporary bands might not have always succeeded in the adaptation of Voivod’s eccentric style pioneered in the mid-80s (looking at you, VEKTOR), DISSIMULATOR pulls out the big guns for a riff-tastic assault on the senses. Together with the maniacal drum work of Philippe Boucher and bass playing of Antoine Daigneault, is lead vocalist/guitarist Claude Leduc absolutely ripping us to shreds with his gnarly guitar tone, smooth yet chaotic soloing, and of course, his ever imaginative science fiction lyrics. If you’ve ever been in the market for more French-Canadian prog/tech metal, look no further. Gentlemen, you’ve done Piggy proud and made a damn good record in the process.
FAVORITE TRACKS: “Neural Hack,” “Warped,” “Hyperline Underflow”
