★★★★
With a unique blend of heavy metal, power metal, and black metal, comes the second full-length from MORGUL BLADE. I was a pretty big fan of their first album, Fell Sorcery Abounds, so I was expecting a lot from this new one, especially with it being 3 years in the making. All that time seems to have paid off, as this album is more straightforward, with tighter performances, more interesting songwriting, and an overall improved sound. The riffs are mean and snarling, packing that black metal punch, and the leads to compliment said riffs are over the top, fusing speed and melody. The rhythm section is nothing to scoff at either, with some fun parts thrown around – albeit while still focusing on keeping time – but even then, it’s those small things that take a good album and raise it higher. If you’re a fan of bands like Root, Malokarpatan, or Sabbat (Japan), this should be right up your alley.
FAVORITE TRACKS: “Eagle Strike,” “Spider God,” “Neither Cross Nor Crown”
