★★
There are a few must-know facts about this album before you listen to it. 1.) It’s their first release in seven years, 2.) They recorded it as a 4-piece with new rhythm guitarist Jason Taylor, & 3.) It’s painfully “OK” - a predictable sentiment if you’ve listened to any of their material past 1991’s LUNAR WOMB. To put it simply, WINO sounds less serious on this release - and listen, the dude’s 63, but his voice just isn’t up to snuff. The lead guitar parts are definitely an improvement and a welcome ray of light on this release, but some good licks can’t save a whole album & these are all songs we’ve heard WINO write before, whether in SAINT VITUS or THE OBSESSED.
FAVORITE TRACKS: “Daughter of an Echo,” “Stoned Back to the Bomb Age”
